The Urban Center seeks to influence and shape a new generation of young and passionate leaders, who will be capable of taking responsibility for making a real difference to the situation in Moldova.
Meeting face to face with victims of human trafficking, BOL realized that the nightmare these people have faced in their lives could happen again if someone will not give them a helping hand. That’s why, in March 2009, BOL established a center for victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. The name ‘House of Change’ reflects the alternatives provided for women in need of healing:
The purpose of this center is primarily to protect young girls from violence, exploitation and trafficking networks, along with help in developing a consistent and holistic character.
The target groups are victims of domestic violence and sexual exploitation, as well as people who suffer from loneliness and depression. At the same time, BOL aims to identify and develop the skills of gifted children. Arts festivals, exhibitions and fairs bring additional incentives to improve people’s self-esteem and hope for the future.
Recognizing the desperate situations faced by vulnerable groups of Moldovan society, BOL opened a humanitarian aid center with the aim of providing assistance to the most vulnerable and needy.

Living through the Easter moments

Created on 12 June 2014

The BOL team, along with members of Light for the World Church and volunteers, decided this year to look at the Easter holiday from the different, new perspective. We wanted to live through those moments of the Last Supper with the apostles and Jesus Christ; to reflect on the night in Gethsemane; to look in the eyes of Pontius Pilate; to be near the crucified Lord and, at the end, to be witnesses of His resurrection...

"Saw of Goodness"

Created on 12 April 2014

Saw of GoodnessIf people in the cities don’t really worry about heating in winter, as they have central heating or gas, for people in rural areas of Moldova it is an essential issue. The only source of heat in the winter, and for cooking during the year, is firewood. For families with adult or young men to bring and cut firewood, it’s not a big deal. But for poor families with old people or single mothers with little children, it’s a real problem. They receive firewood for the winter from local authorities, but then have to saw up and chop the logs themselves. Aware of this need, BOL created ‘Saw of Goodness’, a volunteer project for young and strong men who are not indifferent to other people’s needs.

A sports center, established on the Urban Center basis, is another response of BOL to the disastrous trends that are spreading in the community. Since February 2014, two sport classes have started: table tennis and shaping. The table tennis team is designed for teenagers from Place of Change. A trainer-volunteer is working with a group of 20 teenagers. During the week up to 50 young people have opportunity to play table tennis in the Urban Center sports room.

We are glad to share with you the news that in February 2014 our team was joined by a new member – a professional psychiatrist and psychologist. In recent years we have had many cases where we needed to appeal to hospital mental health specialists to help girls in our rehabilitation program. Working with victims of human trafficking and violence, we have seen how their deep trauma has caused mental disorders. Also we noticed an alarming tendency towards a growing number of young people with deep psychological problems and mental disorders.

Expanding and deepening work among Romanian-speaking youth

For two years, BOL’s ‘Man’s Zone’ project has been serving young men from vulnerable families. These 20 boys were completing their professional studies at vocational schools. Orphaned, or from broken poor families, they had low life skills and no money for higher education. This category of men becomes very vulnerable to labor trafficking.  Also, since the majority of the boys experienced violence in the family or in trade school, they are at increased risk of becoming aggressors or consumers of sexual services themselves.

Escape 2. Is possible to be born twice?

Category: News
Created on 01 April 2014

Literally – no! It is impossible to become again a small embryo, to enter the womb of a mother again to be born. But the concepts of ‘rebirth’ or ‘revival’ are used quite widely, for example by Christians as an explanation of what happens to the person who has believed in God. This concept was used also in history, calling a whole era the ‘Renaissance’, that is – revival. From XIV to the XVI century, Europe endured the whole wave of ‘new, revived’ arts. The same words are used by religious organizations, political parties, social movements - those who want to cast something ‘old’ in a ‘new’ light.
