I think we accomplished the goals we had set for the meeting. We managed to make the girls come together and make friends with each others. We showed them that any difficulty can be surmounted when they are not alone. We created a comfortable environment and as a consequence, the girls felt at ease. This is what matters to us most of all!

The city of history, myths and ancient gods
[ 23.01.2012 13:19]
Athens is the city of history, myths and ancient gods. But not everything is so fabulous and beautiful as we see in the tourist flyers or on television. No one shows the sides of the streets where there is poverty, slavery and drugs. Nor do they share about the people who inhabit these streets, their daily struggles just to keep body and soul together, their inability to think about the future or their daily fight to earn just enough money to survive.

In one step next to prison
[ 01.09.2011 10:48]
For 4 years, the “Beginning of Life” with the support of the WMU has been carrying out the project “Education” for girls at risk. The parents of these girls are addicted to alcohol or suffer from mental diseases. Some of them are orphans. These girls had to be on their own from an early age. They were often forced by their parents to find money for alcoholic beverage. Where can a girl of 14 earn money in Chisinau, if it is hard for an adult to find a job? Some of them were offered to sell their body while others were invited to find a job abroad. And all of them experienced physical and psychological violence in their families. The BoL helped them bring to light their talents and find a school where they could study in accordance with their abilities, which in future will help them find a job and earn the necessary means for living.

[ 16.02.2011 08:01]
When I first saw Anna, she could barely stand on her feet from hunger and exhaustion. Knowing about the BOL organization due to our activity in schools, the mother of one of the pupils called our hotline and asked for help. She was not asking for herself and not even for her daughter but wanted to help a girl, the friend of her daughter who often remained at their place for the night.

“My parents’ life is not my life”
[ 20.03.2012 14:56]
Sveta’s mom went abroad long time ago to make money, met another man and divorced Sveta’s father. A bit later Sveta’s father met someone else too. Sveta is 14. She couldn’t make peace with her parent’s divorce, with the fact she could only talk to her mother via Skype and with receiving mom’s attention in the form of parcels coming from abroad. Even though her dad was nearby, he refused talking to his daughter or maybe was ashamed. His new woman was way younger than him and at first tried to get closer with Sveta. Later she had her own baby and started to get annoyed by Sveta’s presence.

Pleasant surprise
[ 23.01.2012 15:13]
A short time ago, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that people are becoming increasingly familiar with ‘Escape’ magazine as well as the ways in which it is spreading across the country and helping young people. Katya Girbu, the magazine’s most active ‘Escape’ contributor, was the first to tell me the encourag- ing news. For the past two weeks, she had needed to stay home due to an illness. One evening during this time, she was doing something in the kitchen and TV was turned on. It was time for the evening news on the national channel.

When asking women: “Which day in your life was the most special and unique? “, the majority of them say without hesitation, "The wedding day!". For men as well as for women, this is an unforgettable experience filled with joy, awe and mystery. This day came also for Lena, a young woman who, with the help of Beginning of Life, restored her parental rights and now lives with her child in a house that our staff helped to provide for her in northern Moldova.

Marianna was born in a small village in a southern part of Moldova. She has two brothers and one sister. Her mother left them, when they were small kids and moved to live in a city.
